And Ian still doesn’t get it…
Internetnews has a report of how the release of the new version of Ubuntu has become so successful. But, when they asked Ian Murdock, founder of the Debian project, how this affects Debian, he said it is probably hurting Debian, ’cause packages are not compatible.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I think Ian idea of a completely free distribution is a good thing ™ and that we really need a distribution that could tell people how important is to use free software. The biggest problem with him is that EVERYTHING must be Debian, that Debian rox0rs j00r box0rs, that Debian is the greatest thing since sliced bread… Fanaticism as it best. I can even recall his presentations in some of the International Forum of Free Software and, in a 50 minute presentation, he ALWAYS had about 30 minutes of “how Debian is greatest shit eva!”. You go see a presentation about how Linux is gaining space into Desktop and *BLAM!*, 30 minutes of Debian; you go see a presentation about how HP is installing 50,000 computers with Linux and *BLAM!*, more 30 minutes of Debian.
Somewhat I feel nice seeing that the Slashdot guys got all points covered.
