My poor, dusty guitar
There I was, sitting on my desk, trying to focus on some code I had to write (but failing miserably — I think I got a case of “Developer’s block”) when “Def Leppard - Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)” start playing on iTunes. I’m not sure if it is the idea of seeing them live in a few weeks (november, please come faster!) or the fact that listening to the chords, it seemed so easy to those untrained ears that the idea of playing it came to my mind. So, time to check my guitar.
The poor thing is sitting on its stand for more than a month already. The poor black Ibanez body covered in dust. And I was thinking about playing a little bit every day before going to work… Me and my own failed promises…
So, first thing, clean up. I have some cloths on my desk that I use to clean the LCD of my laptop, so I used them to remove most of the dust. Then, tuning. That’s one thing I really like about it: It comes with a built-in tuner. If only I could remember the proper tuning without asking anyone…
First strings played and it sounded awful. Eek me, why would you forget to play the thing? Play chord, see if it right, go to the next one… Then I realize I left the pick between the strings and I was still tuning it. No wonder it sounded so bad. More attention next time.
So, after all that, I played “Stand Up”, right? No. I looked the chords in the internet but the only thing that had it properly was a Guitar Pro file and, after downloading the Mac version and trying to play it, I heard the same song with a piano instead of vocals. And man, it’s awesome. I was so amazed by it that I completely forgot to play the song.
Amazing me…
