There is something that is the same in the lonely hearts

About two months ago, I wrote a poem about the search for the soulmate. Today I got my hands on “Rocket Ride” the new album from “Edguy”. And boy, I really got amazed when I heard “Save Me”. It is the power ballad of this album and, somehow, the lyrics fit the feelings I put on that poem. Here are the lyrics of “Edguy – Save Me”:

Waiting for a little sign
Seems like to no avail
Strolling down the pavement aimlessly

Waitin for someone to snatch her bag of memories
How come you call it destiny?
When the cross you bear’s your only company

Never seen you, I don’t even know you’re name
But still I believe

That you are gonna save me
Somehow I got a notion
Just a little affection on this cold and windy road
Save me, from a state of un-emotion
Just a little affection on this windy road

Why so long? so confusing?
Why’s growing up hurt soo bad?
Seek what we had lost, we get found and go again
I don’t know what’s gone to me
I won’t make any promise I believe

Never seen you, I don’t even know you’re name
But still I believe

That you are gonna save me
Somehow I got a notion
Just a little affection on this cold and windy road
Save me, from a state of un-emotion
Just a little affection on this windy road

I don’t know if I can, I don’t know if I should
I don’t know what is right, and what’s to come if you would
Here I stand in rain, here in stand in the cold
I been locked into (something), another shout in my soul, no

I’m afraid of that harm
Save, save me, got a notion
That you are gonna save me
Somehow I got a notion
Just a little affection on this cold and windy road
Save me, from a state of un-emotion
Just a little affection on this windy road

City Of Darkness

There I was, daydreaming. Then a phrase appeared in my mind. Then the song, the classic power ballad with screaming chorus. I just sit down I wrote the rest of the lyrics (except for the first part).

(insert initial part here)

(chorus:)
And I’m leaving you now
In this city of darkness
I’m leaving you now
To protect you from my own mess

When I hugged you that day
I knew the sides have been flipped away
You would be forever my friend
And that would be my end

[chorus]

I would never see you that way
Not a single day
I wanted you to be mine
For the rest of my life

[2x chorus]

The power of the music

(Did I already wrote about it? Or it was just some talk over IM? Anyway…)

There is something really strong with good songs. You can feel there is something in there, even when you don’t get it. Today I was hearing “When The Tigers Broke Free”, from Pink Floyd. This music always touched me, even if I didn’t pay any attention to the lyrics or the meaning. So I did a quick search, got the lyrics, got really really impressed

It was just before dawn
One miserable morning in black ’44
When the forward commander
Was told to sit tight
When he asked that his men be withdrawn
And the generals gave thanks
As the other ranks
Held back the enemy tanks for a while
And the Anzio bridgehead was held for the price
Of a few hundred ordinary lives

And kind old King George sent mother a note
When he heard that father was gone
It was, I recall, in the form of a scroll
With gold leaf and all
And I found it one day
In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away
And my eyes still grow damp
To remember
That his majesty signed
With his own rubber stamp

It was dark all around
There was frost in the ground
When the tigers broke free
And no one survived from the Royal Fusiliers, Company C
They were all left behind
Most of them dead
The rest of them dying
And that’s how the high command
Took my daddy from me

So I decided, out of nowhere, put the title of the song on Wikipedia and just got this:

“When the Tigers Broke Free” is a Pink Floyd song by Roger Waters, describing the death of his father Eric Fletcher Waters, during World War II in Anzio.

Now the whole song made sense, and its meaning become even more clear and the music, a whole lot more beautiful. I think you must be someone really creative to let a lot of anger get out in such creative way.

John Lennon – Happy Christmas (War Is Over)

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let’s stop all the fight
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
War is over over
If you want it
War is over
Now…

Nightwish, the Wishsides

For those who still don’t know me, I’m a big fan of melodic metal. Also, I’m a fan of melodic rock, rock, pop rock, pop, dance, house, techno, some reggae, some classical… you got the idea.

Thursday I found out a new Nightwish album, “Wishsides”. Basically, it is an album with all excluded tracks, some musics with just the instrumental score, some musics in Suomi and some recordings from other bands. In the middle of them, there is an original track that I think it is really really good: “Where were you last night”. Now, the reason for the introduction is that the song is somewhat pop, which makes some old Nightwish fans really upset, like when they heard “Ghost Love Score”. And “where” is much more popier than “ghost”.

Still
Spinning round in my head
How I regret everything that I said
Why did I tell you to go
Saving my pride but losing my soul

I’m here all alone
Still wait by the phone
The hours go by
What else could I do but to cry

I call and I call
Just to make things right
Have I lost the fight
Where were you last night

I beg and I cry
I keep asking why
Where were you last night
Where were you last night

Lost
In the dark and my fears
If only you saw the tracks of my tears
I think I’m losing my mind
Where did you go and what did you find

I’m here all alone
Still wait by the phone
The hours go by
What else could I do but to cry

I call and I call
Just to make things right
Have I lost the fight
Where were you last night

I beg and I cry
I keep asking why
Where were you last night
Where were you last night

I call and I call
Just to make things right
have I lost the fight
Where were you last night

I beg and I cry
I keep asking why
Where were you last night
Where were you last night

[synth solo]

I’m here all alone
Still wait by the phone
the hours go by
what else could i do but to cry

I call and I call
just to make things right
have i lost the fight
Where were you last night

I beg and I cry

I call and I call
just to make things right
have i lost the fight
Where were you last night

I beg and I cry
I keep asking why
Where were you last night
Where were you last night

Where were you last night
Where were you last night
